Subject: Urgent Request for Reinstatement of Gabriel Cabrera
Dear [Police Commission Member's Name],
I hope this message finds you well. I am writing on behalf of many concerned constituents regarding the unjust termination of Gabriel Cabrera from the LAPD, and I respectfully urge the Police Commission to take swift action in reinstating him.
Mr. Cabrera sustained a near-fatal injury (Meningitis) while working Patrol, which resulted in cognitive impairment. Despite his severe medical condition, he continued to serve on desk duty, working closely with detectives to file criminal cases. His commitment to the force, despite his disability, speaks to his dedication and integrity. However, this medical condition unfortunately put a target on his back. When a complaint, which was filed by his cousin, emerged, the LAPD used it as grounds for his termination. The reality, however, is that the true reason for his dismissal was his disability.
Even his initial union-appointed attorney, Larry Hanna, revealed that this type of practice has been an unwritten policy within the LAPD for decades—something that we cannot stand by. This unjust treatment of Mr. Cabrera due to his disability not only violates the principles of fairness but also sends a harmful message to other officers who may face similar medical challenges.
We know that the Police Commission has the authority to act independently, without the need for court interventions, hearings, or even the mayor's approval. The Commission can address this privately and resolve the injustice that has occurred. We ask that you reinstate Mr. Cabrera and right the wrongs done to him.Thank you for your time, and we trust you will take this matter into serious consideration.
Sincerely,
Contact the police commissioners; it's a (5 member) civil panel. This panel can do the right thing without repercussions. Lookup Robert Williams Stuart - 90 years after his DEATH he was reinstated by the LAPD.
I did and they threw it out for statue issues (too late). I believe in the court of public opinion. You can help put pressure on the police commission. The power of the people. Apply pressure so that they DO THE RIGHT THING!
Supersedes any retaliation concerns. These people are part of a HUGE machine tied to the mayor. It's a power struggle.
Not at all! This movement is not anti-police. I have been picketing people in the police department for 2.5 years. Understand that police are not above the law. Individuals want to support me yet don't want to be exposed. They are afraid of intense workplace retaliation.
"Convinced that he contracted the infection, typically spread by respiratory droplets, during his arrest of the intoxicated man, Cabrera filed a workers’ compensation claim and was off work for several months on medical leave." Read More
